World War One began when the Duke of Austria Hungary, Franz Ferdinand, was assassinated. The war is being fought with my country, Great Britain allied with forces France (and also some smaller countries) against the two powerful countries of Germany and Austria-Hungary. The war has been bloody and brutal but we will never surrender and will never stop fighting for freedom, peace, justice, and equality.
During this Great War it isn't just the soldiers who are fighting the battles overseas. Back in Great Britain the citizens are all apart of the war too. With bombings and attacks on the cities, many are being pulled into the conflicts All of the country's resources have gone to help the war effort and the effects can be felt on the homefront. Everyone is doing their best to contribute. Civil service workers like police workers, postmen, and bus drivers are all doing their part. Others have been working in factories to make uniforms, guns, and amunition. Even housewives who were once stay at home moms have now had to find away to help out because of the rationing of important foods like meat and sugar. Even though it's the soldiers who are out on the front lines defending the country, all of the other men, women, and children are in Great Britain defending the homefront.
